Annual General Meeting June 2008

Retiring President Ed Johnston welcomed all in attendance and commented on his two years in office. He introduced the Treasurer Allan Haldane and the Secretary Frank Bendoris for their Reports before advising on the Executive Committee for the 2008-9 season (see COMMITTEE in the Home page). He then handed over the Chair to the new President Kathy McBride, the first lady President of GSBC.

 

On completion of the AGM business, Chief Executive of Glasgow South West Regeneration Agency Alison Sinclair and depute Tommy Docherty gave a presentation on GSWRA's plans for the local area.

 

GSWRA has a budget of £10m, serves an area of 120,000 people and businesses, and has a property portfolio in excess of £15m.

 

Development expenditure in the area includes Central Govan Action Plan (£70-80m) Film City (Govan Town Hall) (£3.5m) Helen Street Business Park (£10m) with proposed multi-million £ expenditure for the 2014 Games and the Glasgow Airport extension and Rail Link.

GSWRA will also work to provide procurement opportunities for local businesses.

GSWRA is also returning to providing a Business Start-Up programme offering grants, support and training, plus support also for existing businesses, again with funding, training, recruitment advice.
